In dogs with heart failure, EPA helps maintain muscle mass and appetite, normal heart rhythm, blood pressure, and platelet aggregation. In dogs with kidney failure, omega-3 fatty acids help delay the progression of kidney failure.
In patients with heart failure, as a response to the reduced volume of blood ejected by the heart, sodium excretion is decreased, resulting in sodium and water retention in the body.
