FKD Kidney Support
- Chronic kidney insufficiency;
- Liver insufficiency (except for patients with bile duct obstructions);
- Heart failure, high blood pressure, edema;
- Urolithiasis (urates, oxalates, cysteines).
Reduced phosphorus content is necessary to prevent hyperphosphatemia and slow the progression of kidney insufficiency.
EPA and DHA are omega-3 fatty acids that help slow the progression of kidney insufficiency in patients with kidney problems. In cats with heart failure, EPA helps maintain muscle mass and appetite, normal blood pressure, and platelet aggregation.
SPECIFIC™ FKD Kidney Support food has a particularly high fish oil content and, accordingly, EPA and DHA fatty acid content.
The reduced protein content, but with high biological value, reduces azotemia in cats with kidney insufficiency. In cats with liver insufficiency, it reduces the likelihood of hyperammonemia and hepatic encephalopathy. High biological value proteins meet the cat's body's needs for essential amino acids.
In patients with heart failure, as a response to the reduced volume of blood ejected by the heart, sodium excretion is decreased, resulting in sodium and water retention in the body. The low sodium content helps break the closed fluid exchange loop (hypertension and edema). This is extremely important for both patients with kidney and liver insufficiency as well as those with heart failure.
The limited protein content reduces the levels of oxalates, cysteine, and urates in the urine. Together with the alkaline pH of the urine, it prevents the formation of calcium oxalate crystals, urates, and cysteine in the urine and helps maintain urinary tract health. The risk of calcium oxalate formation is also reduced due to the potassium citrate present in the food.
- SPECIFIC™ FKD Kidney Support has a reduced copper content, as patients with liver problems may have impaired copper excretion from the body.
- SPECIFIC™ FKD Kidney Support has an increased potassium content, which helps combat hypokalemia observed in cats with kidney problems.
- The food has a high content of water-soluble vitamins and potassium to compensate for their loss through urine in patients with heart problems who are treated with diuretics.
- To maintain heart muscle function, taurine and L-carnitine have been added to the food.
- SPECIFIC™ FKD Kidney Support food's excellent taste properties create optimal conditions to meet the patient's nutritional needs even when the patient has a poor appetite.
- SPECIFIC™ FKD Kidney Support is specially packaged in a nitrogen environment, thus preserving the uniquely high content of EPA and DHA in the food.
